This car was custom built by Dodge & Mopar for an older gentleman living in Big Lake Minnesota, it was designed to be the best equipped, best handling & most powerful Neon of 95-99 and remained the most powerful stock Neon until the SRT-4 was manufactured in 2003. Factory Specifications are: 150 horsepower, & 133 ft/lbs of torque. Class leading power & dependability beating anything of comparable cost from other domestic or import manufacturers at the time. This car remains a fairly strong competitor to even the cars of today, with its class leading 29 Miles per Gallon (City), and 41 Miles per Gallon (Highway). (depending on the type of driving, this car has seen as good as 45 MPG, it tends to average 30 MPG city / highway driving)
What makes the Neon R/T so special?
There are several features on this Neon that sets it above the one your Grandmother had, or the one you got from a rental company years ago. The R/T stands for Road / Track, it is a heritage car leading back to the glory days of Mopar American Muscle.
This Neon R/T has several features that you will not find on a regular rental Neon:
-2.0L DOHC 4 Cylinder Engine
The added cam in this engine produces more horsepower and torque than the regular single overhead cam engine that was common in almost all Neons produced. Surprisingly enough, it can get better gas mileage as well.
-NVT-350 Performance Manual Transmission
This transmission features a 3.94 final drive ratio that transfers horsepower and torque differently from the regular automatic, and manual transmissions. It also features a much different .81 fifth gear which allows full use of power while driving on the highway. Step on the gas and go!
-SDE Suspension & Handling
The sport suspension known as the SDE package is standard on this Neon R/T. It is a fairly stiff setup that is perfect for both street driving, and track use. The package includes stiff struts, rear sway bar, and a beefy front sway bar, as well as a tight 16:1 steering rack that allows you to turn the wheel less to turn more. Perfect for aggressive street driving or auto crossing.
-BRD Disc Braking System
The BRD or BRF (optional) comes standard on all Neon R/T. It features four wheel vented disc brakes for increased stopping power and greater heat dissipation. This car can take a corner very well with more than enough braking force and then power to accelerate out of an apex.
Additional Features
The Neon R/T also comes standard with a leather wrapped steering wheel, and a leather wrapped shift knob. Power bulge hood to clear the larger engine. Painted door handles and painted bumpers with fog lights. A high revving redline tachometer that hits the red at 7500rpm, and quits at 8000rpm. A special engine computer that allows for much higher top speed, and a higher rev limiter to push the car harder and faster. It has high bolstered front bucket seats covered in Sport Tango cloth. All Neon R/T also come with racing stripes from the factory however this one was specially made at the factory without them!

About this 1998 Dodge Neon R/T
This Neon R/T is fully loaded. Every feature available from Dodge at the time is included with this car and is working condition. This includes: Power Windows, Power Locks, Power Mirrors, Keyless Entry, Power Sunroof all above features and a few more (see the equipment list above).
This R/T was nursed back to health after years of neglect from a previous owner. It was completely reworked to return this car to its former glory and condition. It currently has 130,xxx miles on the chassis, and less on the engine. It has a new cylinder head, head gasket,, timing belt, water pump & mechanical tensioner. It was built to be once again a very reliable mode of transportation. The engine will go another 100,000 miles with basic maintenance (oil changes, coolant flush, tires) before you will need to think about any extra maintenance. The engine is beautifully detailed with a few performance modifications included (see below). Cylinder Head, and Headgasket are of a new design, they are better than the original and do not have problems with low cylinder pressure when properly maintained.
The interior of this car was also restored. The interior was replaced with new plastics, and the seats redone to give them the original firmness and rigidity. They will hold you comfortably for several hours of driving, and hold you in place firmly when doing more aggressive driving. The original factory stereo system was just rebuilt with new speakers from the dealership to keep the system matched for best sound quality. This car has a premium 6 speaker system not commonly found on regular Neons. The leather wrapped steering wheel is still original and shows some wear but is in overall good condition. The roof of the Neon was just recovered in black material keep with the overall appearance of the vehicle.
The exterior of the vehicle clearly shows its age for a 9 year old vehicle. There are some minor dings here or there, but the body of the car is fairly straight. It has not been in an accident that we are aware of. The paint could use a nice polish and clay bar to regain it's luster.
The brake rotors and pads were just replaced along with general scheduled maintainence: Oil Change, Antifreeze Coolant, Power Steering Fluid, Thermostat, Spark Plugs & Wires, Fuel Injectors, Exhaust Donut & most engine gaskets.
Modifications
This car has remained fairly stock, though some special aftermarket and custom parts have been added. They were done explicitly to improve stock responsivness, improve nighttime safety and give a much better visual appearance to this car overall.
